Leather Bed

Pros
  • Leather has a premium, classic feel which cannot be replicated by fabric.
  • The color of the leather will maintain its consistency better than fabric.
  • High-quality leather boasts superior resistance against spillage.
Cons
  • Leather tends to crack and fade if exposed to intense sunlight for a prolonged time.
  • Ink, lipstick, hair dye, and nail polish will permanently disfigure the leather, and cannot be totally cleaned off.
  • Leather sofas require maintenance with products specially designed to treat leather.
  • Leather tends to feel warm in hot weather, which may cause discomfort especially in Singapore’s humid climate.
Maintenance
  • Leather sofas should be wiped with a dry cloth; beat the cushions to loosen dirt and dust.
  • Apply leather conditioner once or twice a year.
  • Use leather cleaning solution, leather wipes, dry sponges/towels and a vacuum cleaner/duster to clean the sofa.

Fabric Sofas

Pros
  • Fabric does not conduct as much heat as leather does, and will be more comfortable in Singapore’s warm weather.
  • Cleaning products for fabrics are cheaper than leather cleaning products.
  • Fabrics are less affected by humidity as compared to leather sets.
Cons
  • Fabrics are more susceptible to stains.
  • Fabrics may discolour under prolonged sunlight or heat.
  • Synthetic fabrics may not be as comfortable as premium, natural fabrics, such as silk or velvet.
  • Natural fabrics are more loosely woven than synthetic ones, and tend to fray (become “hairy”) if subjected to heavy use.
Maintenance
  • Vacuuming regularly with a soft upholstery attachment and beating the cushions will easily remove dirt, grit and grime.
  • Use upholstery cleaning solutions for fabrics, or a wet sponge and some soap.
  • Sofas with removable covers – such as our Coria Loveseat – can be machine-washed for greater convenience.
